Nowadays, it’s increasingly common to encounter ‘smart’ homes as we have doorbells that alert us even before the bell has been rung, heating that comes on as we approach the front door or even see what’s inside the fridge from the office! As the increase in smart devices continues, we still need to ensure that first and foremost, we have a reliable and fast broadband connection to link all the smart home devices too.

Smart devices are game-changing when they work but pain-inducing when they don’t. To avoid tech trauma, read our guide for connecting your device to your Wi-Fi network. In this step-by-step guide we cover a range of smart home devices including Xbox, Skybox, Smart TV, printers, Alexa, and Ring doorbells.
Xbox
1 - Turn on Your Xbox: Make sure your Xbox is powered on and ready to go.
2 - Navigate to Settings: Use your controller to navigate to the ‘Settings’ menu on your Xbox.
3 - Select Network Settings: Within the Settings menu, find and select ‘Network Settings.’
4 - Choose Wi-Fi Network: Select the option to ‘Set Up Wireless Network’ or ‘Choose Network.’ Your Xbox will scan for available Wi-Fi networks.
5 - Enter Wi-Fi Password: Once your Wi-Fi network appears on the list, select it and enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.
6 - Connect: After entering your password, your Xbox will attempt to connect to the Wi-Fi network. Once connected, you're good to go!
Sky box
1 - Power On Your Sky box: Ensure your Sky box is powered on and ready.
2 - Access Settings: Using your Sky box remote, navigate to the settings menu.
3 - Choose Network Settings: Within the settings menu, look for the option labelled ‘Network Settings’ or ‘Internet Connection.’
4 - Select Wi-Fi Connection: Choose the option to connect via Wi-Fi.
5 - Enter Wi-Fi Credentials: Your Sky box will scan for available networks. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
6 - Connect: Once the correct credentials are entered, your Sky box will attempt to connect to the Wi-Fi network. Once connected, you're all set!
Smart TV
1. Power On Your Smart TV: Make sure your Smart TV is turned on.
2 - Access Settings: Using your TV remote, navigate to the settings menu.
3 - Find Network Settings: Look for the option labelled ‘Network,’ ‘Internet,’ or ‘Wi-Fi.’
4 - Choose Wi-Fi Connection: Select the option to connect via Wi-Fi.
5 - Select Your Network: Your Smart TV will scan for available networks. Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list.
6 - Enter Password: Enter the password for your Wi-Fi network when prompted.
7 - Connect: Once the password is entered correctly, your Smart TV will attempt to connect to the Wi-Fi network so you can enjoy streaming your favourite shows.
Printers
1 - Switch On Your Printer: Ensure your printer is powered on and ready.
2 - Access Settings: Using the control panel on your printer, navigate to the settings menu.
3 - Find Wi-Fi Setup: Look for an option like ‘Wi-Fi Setup’ or ‘Network Settings.’
4 - Select Wi-Fi Network: Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list of available networks.
5 - Enter Wi-Fi Password: Enter the password for your Wi-Fi network when prompted.
6 - Connect: Once the password is entered correctly, your printer will attempt to connect to the Wi-Fi network. Once connected, you should be set to print wirelessly.
Alexa
1 - Power On Your Alexa Device: Make sure your Alexa device is plugged in and powered on.
2 - Open Alexa App: Open the Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet.
3 - Access Device Settings: Navigate to the settings menu within the Alexa app.
4 - Select Add Device: Choose the option to add a new device.
5 - Choose Your Device Type: Select the type of Alexa device you want to connect (e.g., Echo, Echo Dot).
6 - Follow On-Screen Instructions: The app will guide you through the process of connecting your Alexa device to your Wi-Fi network.
7 - Connect: Once connected, Alexa will be ready to respond to your voice commands.
Ring Doorbells
1 - Power On Your Ring Doorbell: Ensure your Ring doorbell is switched on.
2 - Download Ring App: If you haven't already, download the Ring app on your smartphone or tablet.
3 - Create Ring Account: Follow the prompts to create a Ring account or log in if you already have one.
4 - Tap Devices: In the Ring app, select the doorbell or camera you’d like to connect to Wi-Fi .
5 - Tap Device Health: Then under Network, select Change Network and follow the instructions in the app.
6 - Allow Time To Connect: To make sure your Ring Doorbell is fully connected, tap Device Health in the app and check signal strength.
